Beautiful English actress of stage, film and television..

Much of Asherson's career has been spent on stage and she made her theatrical debut at the age of 15. She excelled in Shakespearean plays, appearing at such venues as the Old Vic, the Liverpool Playhouse, and the Westminster Theatre.

Asherson made her screen debut in 1944 in and her first major film appearance was in the 1944 film The Way Ahead. In her second film appearance, she drew from her experience as a Shakespearean actress when she played Princess Katherine in the 1944 film adaption of Henry V.

Later films include Caesar and Cleopatra (1945), Once a Jolly Swagman (opposite Dirk Bogarde, 1949), The Small Back Room (1949), Pool of London (1950), Time is My Enemy (1954), The Day The Earth Caught Fire (1961), Christopher Lee’s Rasputin:the Mad Monk (1965), Theatre of Blood (1973), Grey Owl (1999) and The Others (2001).
Asherson was married to Robert Donat, with whom she appeared in The Magic Box (1952), from 1953 until his death in 1958.


This is a very pretty vintage 1940s black and white photograph (5.25" x 3.25"), nicely signed in blue fountain pen ink across the lower white panel. In very good condition.
